Among the animal species, dogs are one of the creatures that attract attention with their many varieties and characteristics. The Dogs family includes as many as 37 living wolves, jackals, foxes, wild dogs, and domestic dogs. Members of the canidae family often mate once a year, with females giving birth at one birth after a two-month gestation period. As with all mammals, the mother nurses her young after birth and cares for them for several months with the help of other members of the family.

Dogs originally inhabited all continents except Australasia and Antarctica, a region in Oceania that included Australia, New Zealand, the Island of New Guinea, and neighboring islands in the Pacific Ocean, and were later taken to Australasia by humans. All lineages descend from the wolf that was domesticated by humans about 12,000 years ago.
