Fight more waves! If you want to make upgrades pretty fast, you should consider starting to challenge the waves. Fencing off waves of enemies not only earns you gold, but also some exp to help you level up and unlock more skill points. The best thing to do is try to advance in wave battle as much as possible, upgrade when you cant.

Upgrade your units! Upgrading your units is easy but requires a lot of investment. First of all, you start with farmers who have no advantages or disadvantages. Balanced troops but not really super strong; you need to upgrade with skill tree.

Know the strengths and weaknesses of your troops! Units have strengths and weaknesses. For example; spearmen are strong against horsemen but weak against javelins. Javelins are strong against spearmen, weak against horsemen. While colliding with the waves, you can see the enemy troops about to be deployed at the top of the screen.

Get extra free gold! You can earn extra gold just by watching an ad when you cant handle the waves.

Conquer and upgrade more colonies! You can find colonies by tapping the map icon at the bottom right. Enemy colonies have certain level starting from 1. You should start challenging them starting from the lowest colony level. When successfully conquered, it turns into a red flag and an upgrade option appears.

Upgrade your catapult! The catapult is right behind the walls of your headquarters and has two different weapons to choose from. Both weapons have their own characteristics. You can choose between large arrows that deal 300% bonus damage against siege weapons and elephants, and small arrows with 3 arrows that give 50% bonus to soldiers. Since your soldiers will be pretty strong to pick up siege weapons at the beginning, I suggest you upgrade and use small arrows to start with.

Choose your generals skills wisely! General skills are divided into three main sections. Active skills are those that you can use and strengthen your army or do bonus damage. Basic skills are to increase the damage of the tower, give you extra gold and experience points, etc. are passive skills that can increase various attributes, such as giving things. Army skills are useful buffs that can reduce cooldowns and passively increase troops damage.
