As an independent production, Papers, Please has a fictional story set in the 80s. In the game, we are guests of a communist country called Arstotzka. After 6 years of wars, Astotzka declared a truce with its neighboring country Kolechia and obtained half of the city of Grestin. Borders have now been opened and citizens of both countries have the right to transit. We are involved in the game as a visa officer who supervises these transitions and we strive to ensure that the transitions take place in a healthy way.

Our main goal at Papers, Please is to audit the visa documents given to us, weed out the fake ones and prevent suspicious passes. The crossings between the borders of the two countries are not always smooth; Besides normal people, terrorists, agents and provocateurs are trying to cross the border. These dangerous people can forge documents, offer bribes to you and resort to illegal means.

At Papers, Please, we are a hard-working clerk. We earn money according to the visa documents that we check and evaluate correctly in the game. Therefore, we need to evaluate the documents quickly and accurately. As the game progresses, the difficulty level increases and things get complicated. On the one hand, the fact that we are making a living for our family makes it difficult for us.
