The developers describe Prodeus as an old first-person shooter reimagined using modern rendering techniques. The gameplay resembles classic first-person shooters from the 1990s like Doom and Quake. You explore complex levels, you need to find keys to advance, you fight enemies in fast-paced battles using various weapons. To help you find your way and uncover secrets, there is auto map with function similar to that found in games like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Metroid Prime.

Prodeus uses a modern game engine to bring the experience of classic shooter games with visuals such as dynamic lighting, particle effects, interactive levels, blood system, dynamic soundtracks. While the game can be played with purely modern visuals, it allows the player to apply shaders that give the game a pixel look, simulating resolutions up to 360p and even 216p. The game also offers the option to dynamically transform enemy and item models into standalone images, maximizing the retro level.
