RimWorld is a story generator. He was conceived as a writer of tragic, twisted and triumphant stories about imprisoned pirates, hopeless colonists, hunger and survival. It works by controlling the random events the world throws at you. Every storm, pirate attack, and traveling dealer is a card dealt to your story by AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy things, Cassandra Classic raises the tension, and Phoebe Chillax likes to relax.

Your colonists arent professional settlers - theyre survivors from a wrecked cruise ship in orbit. You could end up with a noble, an accountant, and a housewife. You will get more colonists by going to war, turning them on your side, buying from slave traders or taking in refugees. So your colony will always be a colorful team.

Each persons history is tracked and affects how they play. A noble will be great at social skills (hiring prisoners, negotiating trade prices) but will refuse physical work. A farm oaf knows how to grow food from long experience, but cannot do research. A nerdy scientist is great at research, but they cant do social tasks. It can do nothing but kill a genetically engineered assassin - but it does it very well.

Colonists develop and destroy relationships. Each has an opinion of others that determines whether they will fall in love, marry, cheat, or fight. Maybe your two best colonists are happily married—until one of them falls for the frantic surgeon who saved him from a gunshot wound.

The game creates an entire planet from the pole to the equator. You choose whether to land your crash ponds in a cold northern tundra, an arid desert flat, a temperate forest or a steamy equatorial forest. Different areas have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, precipitation, mineral resources and terrain. The challenges of surviving in diseased, drowning forests are very different from those in an arid desert terrain or frozen tundra with a two-month growing season.

Travel all over the planet. You are not stuck in one place. You can create a human, animal and prisoner trailer. Rescuers smuggled former allies from pirated sources, participated in peace negotiations, traded with other factions, attacked enemy colonies, and completed other missions. You can even collect the entire colony and go to a new location. You can use rocket powered transport pods to travel faster.

You can tame and train animals. Cute animals will cheer up sad colonists. Farm animals can be worked, milked and slaughtered. Attack monsters can be unleashed on their enemies. There are many animals - cats, labradors, grizzly bears, camels, cougars, chinchillas, chickens, and exotic alien-like life forms.

The people at RimWorld constantly monitor their situation and environment to decide how they will feel at any given moment. Responds to hunger and fatigue, witnesses death, disrespectfully buried corpses, injured, lurking in the dark, crammed into cramped environments, sleeping outside or in the same room with others, and in many other cases. If they are too tight, they may break or break.

Wounds, infections, prosthetics, and chronic conditions are tracked in every body part and affect the capacities of the characters. Eye injuries make it difficult to shoot or perform surgery. Injured legs slow people down. Hands, brain, mouth, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, feet, fingers, toes and others can be injured, sick or lost, and all can have logical in-game implications. And other species have their own body setup - one deer sticks out and can still hug the other three. Remove a rhinos horn and its much less dangerous.
