Download SpeedFan,
SpeedFan is a free program where you can control the computer fan speed and monitor the temperature values of the hardware. It reports the rotation speed of the fans in your computer, hardware information such as CPU and motherboard temperature to a chip BIOS on your motherboard. Well, wouldnt it be nice if you could access this information via Windows? Of course it would.
SpeedFan is a free program designed for this purpose. Especially overclocking users should definitely monitor variables such as the current fan speed and processor and motherboard temperature during operation in Windows with such a software. Apart from that, SpeedFan can also provide very in-depth information about your hard drive. It is an easy-to-use software where you can see the SMART, fan and processor information in your program system in the most detailed way.
Using SpeedFan
SpeedFan is an effective and useful program, but its interface can be daunting and confusing to use.
The first thing you should do is check if your motherboard is compatible with SpeedFans fan control feature. You can find the list of supported motherboards here. If your motherboard is not supported, you can continue to use SpeedFan as a system monitoring and troubleshooting program.
If your motherboard is supported, enter your systems BIOS and disable automatic fan controls. This will prevent any conflicts between SpeedFan and system fan settings. After doing all this, install and launch SpeedFan and wait a few seconds for it to scan the sensors on your computer. Once the process is complete, you will be greeted with a range of temperature readings for various components such as the CPU, GPU, and hard drives.
Now click the Configure button on the right. Go to the Options tab and make sure Set fans to 100% on program exit is checked and set the fan speed value to 99 (maximum). This will ensure that your fans will not stay at their previous settings even if the temperature gets too high. Now go to the Advanced tab and select your motherboards superIO chip from the drop-down menu. Find the PWM mode. You can change the fan speed percentages with the up and down arrows or by entering the value in the menu. It is recommended not to set it lower than 30%.
Then go to the Speeds tab and set the automatic fan controls. Here you will find the minimum and maximum values of the fans for each of your components. Make sure Automatically variated is checked. From the Temperatures tab, you can set the temperatures you want certain components to run and when they will give you a warning.
