Youll notice that Firebird server comes in three flavors: SuperServer, Classic, and Embedded. You can start with SuperServer. Currently, it is recommended for Classic SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessor) machines and some other special cases. SuperServer uses shared cache memory for connections and user operations. Classic runs as a separate and independent server process for each connection made.

Firebird allows you to create databases, get database statistics, run SQL commands and scripts, backup and restore, etc. It comes with a full set of command line tools that will provide If you prefer to use a GUI (Graphical User Interface) tool, you can choose from many options, including free ones.
